On a distant world live the people of TALARA.  Talara is one of many kingdoms on that world that live in harmony with one another.  There once was a time of great tragedy and pain, but that time has long since passed. Talara is a kingdom of the valleys near the sea.  There they have prospered with rich farmlands, waters, and an abundance of animals. The king of Talara is the aging PEROS who is loved by all.  His son, LUROS, is the heir to the throne and is a bright and courageous prince.  He adores his father and tries his best to be just like him. The people of SYLVAN live in the mountain forests above Talara.  The Sylvans have a special relationship with the spirits of nature and many creatures of the forest are their close companions as well as their helpers, including the great flying beasts called TERAKS. Sylvan is the home of the beautiful SALURIA.  She has a special gift, the ability to communicate with the spirits of nature, to hear them when they speak.  Saluria has become very worried because she feels a deepening sense of pain and fear from the forest spirits but she is not sure what it all means  Another Sylvan of special powers also senses something.  He is the great warrior shaman STERON who lives alone in the distant forest.  He is old enough to understand what the spirits are saying and knows that something must be done.  Unbeknownst to Saluria, Steron is her father. While on a hunting trip high in the mountains, the fearless Luros takes one too many risks and is seriously hurt, near death. Saluria saves his life.  She carries him on a terak to her home to heal until he is able to travel. Luros wakes to an angelic vision and is smitten with her.  His strong heart has connected with Saluria’s. But just as their love has blossomed one of Luros’ soldiers arrives with an urgent message from the king to return home.  Luros vows he will come back for Saluria but as they part Saluria feels the foreboding of the spirits. Far across the great plains lies another kingdom, one which has little contact with the people of Talara and Sylvan.  This is the kingdom of XARDON.  The king of Xardon is MUROSH.  He is a greedy and arrogant ruler. His kingdom has grown rich and powerful over many years but at the cost of the freedom of the peoples who he has enslaved.

Murosh’s closest advisor is the shaman SUROX, a practioner of the dark secrets of nature.  It is with Surox’s help that Murosh has built his kingdom into such a great and fearsome power.  Surox has developed many sophisticated machines of war that Murosh has used to conquer and control his neighbors. With Surox’s urging, Murosh has decided that the time has come to make the whole world his to rule.  He has ordered his craftsman to build more machines of war than ever seen before, enough to flood the great plains and conquer everything before them.

This is the time of the Great War.

A group of desperate refugees from a neighboring kingdom seeks sanctuary in Talara. King Luros learns of the great marauding force from Xardon that approaches and how Murosh has conquered and enslaved his neighbors.  The king musters his armies to defend Talara from attack. It is a tremendous battle but Talara is defeated.  The destruction of war is everywhere. Peros is killed and Luros is badly wounded, dying.  Murosh offers Luros one choice, submit to his will or all of Talara will be destroyed.  Luros cannot bear to see his people killed so he willingly gives Murosh his life.  Surox uses his darks arts to heal Luros turning Luros’ heart dark and hateful and forcing him to be a servant of Murosh. Murosh leaves Surox’s daughter, Turexa, as Luros’ concubine and as a watchful eye over the part of Luros that has survived his transformation.   Turexa is a seductive creature with strange powers.  She was born from the union of Surox and a spirit of darkness.  Talara survives but has become a place of sadness and fear.  The people are alive but have been enslaved by Murosh. Not all of the great forces of Murosh have been successful.  The Sylvan people have not been easy to conquer. The mountain forests are difficult for the war machines to navigate and the Sylvan’s abilities to hide, to fly on teraks, and to use the forces of nature are great.

With Steron’s help, Saluria has learned to harness the lightning of the dark clouds to destroy the war machines. Saluria succeeds in protecting her people and defeating one of Murosh’s armies. But Saluria’s greatest hope is to rescue Luros. She rides the great distance to Talara on her terak to find Luros but discovers she is too late. The tragedy of the battle is everywhere. The cities of Talara are like ghost towns. When Saluria finally finds Luros, he is immune to her pleading, seemingly hypnotized by the evil temptress at his side, Turexa.

She flies away with a broken heart determined to destroy the evil that has entered her lands and restore her beloved Luros to his true self.
